Frank Williams was a tail gunner in 617 Squadron (Dambusters) but did not take part in the raid on the Dams.

Rear tail gunners were called "Tailend Charlie" this was the most dangerous place to be in the plane and tailenders suffered the highest amount of casualties in Lancaster crews.
